The Chinese - Uyghur Xinjiang Conflict
The Chinese - Uyghur Xinjiang Conflict
The Xinjiang conflict is an ongoing separatist struggle in the People's Republic of China (PRC) far-west province of Xinjiang. A group of Uyghur separatists claim that the region, which they refer to as East Turkestan, is not a part of China, but that the Soviet supported Second East Turkestan Republic was invaded by the PRC in 1949 and has since been under Chinese occupation. The separatist movement is led by Turkic Islamist militant organizations, most notably the East Turkestan independence movement, against the national government in Beijing. The Xinjiang Wars were a series of armed conflicts which took place in the early and mid 20th century, during the Warlord Era of the Republic of China; and during the Chinese Civil War, which saw the establishment of the People's Republic of China. The wars also played an important role in the East Turkestan independence movement. The Soviet Union supported the Uyghur Second East Turkestan Republic in the Ili Rebellion against the Republic of China. According to her autobiography, Dragon Fighter: One Woman's Epic Struggle for Peace with China, the Uyghur activist Rebiya Kadeer's father served with pro-Soviet Uyghur rebels under the Second East Turkestan Republic in the Ili Rebellion (Three Province Rebellion) in 1944-1946, using Soviet assistance and aid to fight the Republic of China government under Chiang Kai-shek. Kadeer and her family were close friends with White Russian exiles living in Xinjiang and Kadeer recalled that many Uyghurs thought Russian culture was "more advanced" than that of the Uyghurs and they "respected" the Russians a lot. Immediate causes Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch speculate that Uyghur resentment towards alleged repression of Uyghur culture may explain some of the ethnic riots that have occurred in Xinjiang during the People's Republic of China (PRC) period. Conversely, some Han Chinese opponents of the movement are unhappy at being, in their perspective, treated as second-class citizens by PRC policies, in which many of the ethnic autonomy policies are discriminatory against them (see Autonomous entities of China). Some go so far as to posit that since previous Chinese dynasties owned Xinjiang before the Uyghur Empire, the region belongs to them as opposed to the Uyghurs. Supporters of the movement, on the other hand, have labelled Chinese rule in Xinjiang, and policies like the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, as Chinese imperialism. Uyghur nationalist historians such as Turghun Almas claim that Uyghurs were distinct and independent from Chinese for 6000 years, and that all non-Uyghur peoples are non-indigenous immigrants to Xinjiang. However, the Han Dynasty (206 BCE--220 CE) established military colonies (tuntian) and commanderies (duhufu) to control Xinjiang from 120 BCE, while the Tang Dynasty (618-907) also controlled much of Xinjiang until the An Lushan rebellion. Chinese historians refute Uyghur nationalist claims by pointing out the 2000-year history of Han settlement in Xinjiang, documenting the history of Mongol, Kazakh, Uzbek, Manchu, Hui, Xibo indigenes in Xinjiang, and by emphasizing the relatively late "westward migration" of the Huigu (equated with "Uyghur" by the PRC government) people from Mongolia the 9th century. The name "Uyghur" was associated with a Buddhist people in the Tarim Basin in the 9th century, but completely disappeared by the 15th century, until it was revived by the Soviet Union in the 20th century. Uyghur nationalists often incorrectly claim that 5% of Xinjiang's population in 1949 was Han, and that the other 95% was Uyghur, erasing the presence of Kazakhs, Xibes, and others, and ignoring the fact that Hans were around one third of Xinjiang's population at 1800, during the time of the Qing Dynasty. Tweet this video! - http://clicktotweet.com/7a342 Military conflicts and wars cause a certain level of unrest in countries. It's a depressing fact that these conflicts do not only exist between and among countries fighting for power or settling disputes, but also among citizens who struggle to resolve their differences. Because of this, it is not only the economic or political stability of a country that is thrown off but also the culture and safety of its sometimes-oblivious civilians. One officer was seriously injured. However, World Uyghur Congress spokesman Dilixiati told Taiwan Central News Agency that the incident was due to insults and provocation to the Uyghur from security. As well as killing the young Uyghur, police injured another man and arrested 12 Uyghurs. One policeman was injured and a police car was set on fire. Dilixiati said that the current Chinese Communist Party indulged in armed provocations against Uyghurs and killing any protester who was dissatisfied with Beijing's policies. On May 8, Chinese Communist Party mouthpiece media confirmed that senior journalist Gao Yu was accused of "illegally providing state secrets to foreign crimes". China Ethnic conflict More details of Xinjiang knife, bomb attack 3 dead, 79 injured
Three people were killed and 79 others injured in an attack on a railway station in China's Xinjiang late Wednesday, state media said, as the president wrapped up a trip to the restive region. China's official news agency Xinhua said attackers slashed people with knives and set off explosives at the south railway station in Xinjiang's capital Urumqi, calling it a "violent terrorist attack". The assault came on the same day that President Xi Jinping ended a visit to Xinjiang in China's far west, home to the country's mostly Muslim Uighur minority. The vast and nominally autonomous region of Xinjiang, where Uighurs are the largest ethnic group, is periodically hit by deadly clashes that authorities blame on terrorists but which rights groups say are driven by cultural repression. Four people were seriously injured in the attack but were "in a stable condition" after being sent to hospital for treatment, Xinhua reported, citing local Communist Party officials. President Xi moved swiftly to urge "'decisive actions' against violent terrorist attacks" following the incident, Xinhua said. "The battle to combat violence and terrorism will not allow even a moment of slackness, and decisive actions must be taken to resolutely suppress the terrorists' rampant momentum," the news agency quoted Xi as saying. The blast, which occurred at 7.10pm local time, was "centred around luggage left on the ground between the station exit and a public bus stop," Xinhua said, citing witnesses. The station was closed after the incident and services suspended but it has since been reopened. Police evacuated people from nearby areas, the state news agency quoted an officer as saying. Many online postings relating to the incident on China's Twitter-like microblog Weibo have since been removed, including images from apparent witnesses and posts from news organisations. The attack comes weeks after 29 people were killed and 143 injured in a brutal stabbing spree at a railway station in Kunming, in southwest Yunnan province, which Beijing blamed on separatists from Xinjiang. Four surviving members of what Beijing called a "terrorist gang" have been charged with carrying out the March attack, dubbed "China's 9/11" by state media, and are expected to receive the death penalty. Xi, during a visit to Xinjiang which ended Wednesday, called for tougher law enforcement but also for stepped-up assimilation of minorities. While fighting terrorism, China will deploy a "strike-first" strategy against terrorists in the region to deter enemies and inspire people, Xinhua quoted him as saying. But he added that Beijing would implement "appropriate policies to improve ethnic harmony and common prosperity of all ethnic groups". Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews Minzu University of China Professor Ilham Tohti, a member of the Uyghur ethnic minority, was abducted by the police on Wednesday afternoon from his Beijing home for reasons unknown. Sources in Xinjiang note that the livelihood of Uyghurs has further deteriorated due to the escalating stability maintenance after the central government's new deployment to Xinjiang. At 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 15th, Uyghur Professor Ilham Tohti was taken away from his home by police. lham's mother also went missing. That evening, in a phone conversation with Tibetan poet Woeser, Ilham's wife Guzaili Nu'er said that when she arrived home around 4 p.m., 40 police were in the process of raiding her home. The police did not leave until 9 p.m. They confiscated four computers, three cell phones, hard drives, USB flash drives, and discs. They also seized Ilham's class materials as well as a small safe with documents and bank cards. At the same time, for reasons not specified, a portion of Uyghur students at the University were also summoned to their respective departments. Human Rights Campaign organizer Hu Jun believes Ilham's detainment was related to the recent deployment of Chinese authorities to Xinjiang by the central government. Hu Jun, who is also a resident of Xinjiang, says the regime has further tightened the stability maintenance in Xinjiang. Hu Jun, Human Rights Campaign organizer: "Patrol has been enhanced in my area. There are police cars surrounding my apartment. When Xi Jinping was delivering a speech, state security visited me and warned me not to talk about the Xinjiang issue or else I would be sent to jail." Just this past Dec. 19, seven Central Politburo Standing Committee members held a meeting regarding a report about current and future deployment to Xinjiang. Xi Jinping also ordered that stability be made "top priority" in Xinjiang. Immediately after the meeting, Xinjiang Autonomous Region Party Secretary Zhang Cunxian conducted six local high-level meetings in two weeks to discuss the central government's decision regarding Xinjiang. Zhao Shilin, School of Philosophy and Religious Studies professor at Minzu University of China criticizes the regime's inability to reflect the ethnic policy and implement the so-called autonomy. Zhao Shilin, Professor of Philosophy and Religious Studies: "This rigid repression in modern society is inconsistent with the principles of civilization and won't reach its goal of a stable society. They ought to adopt the policy for stabilization through conciliation with respect of the differences in culture, economy and politics. Otherwise, trouble will continue." Since the July 2009 Ürümqi riots, there have been numerous reports of conflict in Xinjiang. Dilshat Reshit, spokesman for World Uyghur Congress: "What the Uyghurs have experienced has reached the limit of deep crisis. The arbitrary detainment, interrogation and home invasions in the name of stability maintenance is a provocation to the traditions and beliefs of the Uyghurs. That's what has triggered a series of conflicts." Dilshat Reshit indicates that regardless of the type of conflict, the regime will only deploy a local military suppression and subsequently announced to the world that they have tackled the issue of so-called terrorist organizations and terrorists. Dilshat Reshit: "If the Communist regime continues its current policy of discrimination and provocation, the situation will only further deteriorate and the conflict will grow. The regime must immediately stop the systematic persecution of Uyghurs to avoid further deterioration and the emergence of a new round of turmoil." Dilshat Reshit also calls on the international community to send a more effective and powerful message to the regime to terminate the current repressive policies in Xinjiang. 《神韵》2014世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/- published: 17 Jan 2014

Follow us on TWITTER: http://twitter.com/cnforbiddennews Like us on FACEBOOK: http://www.facebook.com/chinaforbiddennews Chinese authorities defined multiple explosions on Friday in Xinjiang Aksu as a so-called "violence and horror" case.Six people were shot and five people arrested including two ladies; another six people died in the explosion. Commentators said the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has a new method to suppress the rebels. They shoot Uygurs continuously and frame them as terrorists. On January 27, CCP official media announced Aksu Xinhe county "1.24" explosion was solved on January 26. The CCP defined the case as an organized premeditated "violent terrorist attack".The CCP claimed that since last May, Ibrahim Qahar got some people to engage several times in illegal religious activities and formed a so-called "violent terrorist" group of 17 people to conduct activity in a rental room. Official media announced that on January 24, they carried a detonation device to implement the so-called "violent terror" by three motor tricycles. Xinhe county police attacked on-site and killed six people, detaining five people. There were another six people who died in the explosion. The witness Mr. Wang said: "The attackers' were surround by police cars when they attempted to enter the farmers market in the pedestrian street. Mr.Wang also said: "It seems the homemade explosive was uncovered by the police. When the police chased them, they had no place to hide and detonated the bomb to kill themselves." Xinjiang bombing local store clerk: "I closed the door when I heard the explosion. Then I asked my friend who was a witness to the bombing. He said the police shooting didn't scare them; they detonated the bomb because they had no place to hide." CCP newspaper "Global Times" quoted an unnamed official of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region saying the backbone of the so-called "violent terrorist" group were arrested, including two ladies. The official also said that the people in the attack are the same as the participants who were repeatedly involved in Xinjiang attacks this year. They were brainwashed by violent videos and terrorist ideology, then gathered together to commit the crime. A spokesman of the "World Uyghur Congress" Dilshat Reshit pointed out that a new method for the CCP to suppress the rebels is to continuously kill Uygurs framing them as terrorists. Dilshat said: "It's not occasion for the series of recent violent conflicts. The continuous conflicts are related to the local policy from the CCP. Uygurs have reached the limit of crisis tolerance for provocation, insults and discrimination from the officials." Since 2013, there were several clashes between police and people in South Xinjiang region, especially Kashgar Hetian Prefecture; more than 10 Uygurs were shot and killed by the police each time. The CCP's mouthpiece media consistently claimed they are so-called thugs armed with machetes and other weapons. Dilshat said the CCP always accused Uygurs of terrorist attacks without facing their high-handed policy in Xinjiang. Dilshat: "Especially in recent years, the CCP implemented tangible and intangible discrimination policies by arbitrary detaining and breaking into the Uygur families in the name of so-called safeguarding. The provocation to the Uygur traditional life and beliefs has triggered a series of violent conflicts." Dilshat criticized how the CCP takes military repression locally for all conflicts claiming they are hitting terrorist groups or terrorist organizations It is said the CCP's increasingly high-handed policy led to frequent violent conflicts in Xinjiang.Last October, the CCP also claimed the Beijing Tiananmen crash incident as "a rigorous planed, organized, premeditated terrorist violence case." The other day, the CCP took away Uygur scholar Ilham Tohti and many Uygur students, claiming he incited against the state. The same day, the police shot and killed three Uygurs in Xinjiang Awati county. 《神韵》2014世界巡演新亮点 http://www.ShenYunPerformingArts.org/- published: 28 Jan 2014
